Entering 2019, head coach Mike Vrabel’s Tennessee Titans faced moderate expectations coming off three consecutive nine-win seasons. General manager Jon Robinson aggressively retooled the roster, signing guard Rodger Saffold, receiver Adam Humphries, and pass rusher Cameron Wake while drafting tackle Jeffery Simmons, receiver A.J. Brown, guard Nate Davis, and safety Amani Hooker. Tennessee finished 9-7 again for the fourth year in a row, placing second in the AFC South and claiming a Wild Card spot. The offense clicked following a midseason quarterback switch. After starting 2-4 with Marcus Mariota, Vrabel turned to Ryan Tannehill, who sparked a dynamic transformation. Tannehill completed 70.3 percent of his passes for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions with a league-best 117.5 passer rating. His efficiency unlocked running back Derrick Henry, who captured the NFL rushing title with 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns. Rookie receiver A.J. Brown added 1,051 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 20.2 yards per reception, helping Tennessee rank 10th in scoring with 402 points (25.1 ppg) and 12th in yards with 5,805.

Defensively, coordinator Dean Pees guided a unit that allowed 331 points (20.7 ppg) which was good for 12th in NFL and 5,752 total yards. Linebacker Harold Landry led the pass rush with 9.0 sacks, while Jurrell Casey added 5.0 sacks. Linebacker Rashaan Evans posted 111 tackles, with rookie Jeffery Simmons contributing 2.0 sacks after returning from injury. In the secondary, Logan Ryan recorded 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and four interceptions. Safety Kevin Byard grabbed five interceptions, while Malcolm Butler added two picks, including a 38-yard touchdown return, anchoring a bend-don't-break defense.

A 16-0 shutout loss to Denver in Week 6 served as the catalyst for Tannehill taking over. Tennessee responded by winning seven of its final ten games. Key victories included a 35-32 home thriller against Kansas City in Week 10, a 42-20 blowout of Jacksonville, and a crucial 31-17 road win at Indianapolis. Facing a must-win situation in Week 17, the Titans delivered a dominant 35-14 road triumph over Houston behind Henry’s 211 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lock up a playoff berth.

In the postseason, the sixth-seeded Titans launched a shocking run. They knocked off New England 20-13 in the Wild Card round and dethroned top-seeded Baltimore 28-12 in the Divisional round before falling 35-24 to Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game. Individual honors followed, as Tannehill won Comeback Player of the Year, punter Brett Kern earned First-Team All-Pro accolades, and Henry was named Second-Team All-Pro. The 2019 season established Tennessee as a physical AFC contender with a clear blueprint for success.
