Tennessee's road to January was defined by defensively gritty stretches and supreme special teams play. A blazing 6-2 start featured a 31-14 Monday Night Football road win in New Orleans and a wild 38-36 victory over Houston where Rob Bironas etched his name in the record books, drilling an NFL-record eight field goals. After a midseason three-game slump dropped the Titans to 6-5 they faced do-or-die pressure down the stretch. Tennessee reeled off three straight late-season wins against Kansas City, the New York Jets, and a 16-10 finale over Indianapolis to clinch the final playoff spot.

The postseason journey was brief, as the Titans fell 17-6 to San Diego in a low-scoring Wild Card slugfest at Qualcomm Stadium.
