Watt put together a spectacular campaign, racking up 14.5 sacks and 8 forced fumbles to finish third in Defensive Player of the Year voting. Flanked by Bud Dupree’s 11.5 sacks and rookie Devin Bush’s team-high 109 tackles, this unit carried the franchise on its back, keeping Pittsburgh competitive in every single game.

The turning points of the season were defined by defensive grit. After a miserable 1-4 start, Pittsburgh rallied to win seven of their next eight games. The peak of Duck Mania arrived during a crucial stretch where Hodges guided victories over the Bengals, Browns, and Cardinals. However, offensive limitations caught up to them down the stretch. A costly five-turnover collapse against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 initiated a season-ending three-game losing streak, culminating in a 28-10 loss to Baltimore that slammed the playoff door shut.

Missing the playoffs was disappointing, but this team’s legacy remains highly respected based on their defensive feats. They remained competitive despite finishing near the bottom in every major offensive category. The year produced exceptional individual accolades, with Cameron Heyward, Fitzpatrick, and Watt securing first-team All-Pro honors, while Diontae Johnson earned a second-team All-Pro nod as a punt returner.
