Season Review

Denver Broncos 2013

The 2013 Denver Broncos entered the year with immense championship expectations. Front office boss John Elway aggressively upgraded the roster, signing free agents Wes Welker, Louis Vasquez, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Head coach John Fox guided the squad to a brilliant 13-3 record, capturing the AFC West. Though the season concluded with a painful Super Bowl defeat, this campaign stood as a historic, high-stakes ride.

Denver fielded the most explosive offense in football history, leading the league with 7,317 yards and a record-shattering 606 points at an incredible 37.9 points per contest. Peyton Manning won MVP honors, throwing for an unprecedented 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Demaryius Thomas paced the aerial attack with 1,430 yards and 14 scores, while Eric Decker added 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns. Julius Thomas caught 12 touchdowns, and Welker snagged 10. On the ground, Knowshon Moreno provided excellent balance, rushing for 1,038 yards and 10 scores.

Playing with massive leads, the defense leaned into a high-stakes bending style, ranking 22nd in points allowed, conceding 399 (24.9 ppg) and 19th in yards (5,696). With Von Miller limited to nine games, Shaun Phillips spearheaded the pass rush with 10.0 sacks, while Malik Jackson added 6.0. Terrance Knighton anchored a run defense that ranked seventh in yards allowed. In the secondary, Rodgers-Cromartie excelled, while linebacker Danny Trevathan led the unit with 129 tackles and three interceptions.

The historic run opened with a bang as Manning tossed seven touchdowns in a 49-27 demolition of Baltimore. That sparked a 6-0 start, highlighted by a wild 51-48 shootout over Dallas. Midseason road stumbles at Indianapolis and New England tested their grit, but Denver responded by sweeping the rival Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos closed the regular season with two victories, including a 34-14 finale over Oakland to secure home-field advantage.

Denver dispatched San Diego 24-17 and handled New England 26-16 to claim the AFC title, before falling 43-8 to Seattle in Super Bowl XLVIII. Despite the bitter ending, this team's legacy is secure. Manning took home MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors, while kicker Matt Prater made the Pro Bowl after hitting a record 64-yard field goal. They remain the gold standard for single-season statistical dominance.
