Season Review

Cleveland Browns 2025

The 2025 Cleveland Browns season was a brutal exercise in trying to win football games without a dependable offense, finishing 5-12 and fourth in the AFC North. Head coach Kevin Stefanski sought stability by drafting rookie Shedeur Sanders and re-signing veteran Joe Flacco, but a chaotic quarterback carousel quickly derailed their playoff hopes. Despite a great defense keeping them competitive, Cleveland spent autumn buried in the division basement, making their late-season wins mere draft-order spoilers.

Cleveland’s offense sputtered badly, finishing 31st in points (16.4 ppg) and 30th in yards. The pass-heavy scheme cycled through three quarterbacks; Shedeur Sanders threw seven touchdowns to 10 interceptions, Dillon Gabriel added 937 yards, and Joe Flacco struggled with six picks. Rookie runner Quinshon Judkins provided a spark with 827 rushing yards and seven scores, while breakout tight end Harold Fannin led the aerial attack with 72 catches for 731 yards and six touchdowns.

Conversely, the defense played at a championship-caliber level, ranking fourth in yards allowed. The unit was anchored by Myles Garrett, who terrorized backfields with an astronomical 23.0 sacks. Alongside him, rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger was a revelation, racking up 156 tackles. This relentless front seven masked an overworked secondary, with linebacker Devin Bush Jr. contributing three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns to keep games respectable.

The season was defined by missed opportunities, starting with a heartbreaking 17-16 opening loss to Cincinnati. A catastrophic stretch where they managed one win in eight contests sealed their fate, highlighted by a 31-3 blowout loss to Chicago. While a 31-6 thrashing of Miami showcased their defensive peak, and consecutive season-ending wins against Pittsburgh and Cincinnati provided a small silver lining, the damage was already self-inflicted.

Missing the postseason was inevitable for a squad that turned the ball over 25 times. However, the legacy of this team rests on individual hardware. Myles Garrett captured AP Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Carson Schwesinger won AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. It stands as one of Cleveland's strangest campaigns: a historic, award-winning defense completely wasted by an offense that couldn't find the end zone.
