The 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars season remains one of the most sobering reality checks in franchise history. Coming off an 11-5 playoff campaign, head coach Jack Del Rio's team entered the year with Super Bowl aspirations, adding free agents Jerry Porter and Drayton Florence to bolster the roster. Instead, a devastating wave of offensive line injuries derailed the season before it could start. The Jaguars collapsed to a 5-11 record, finishing fourth in the AFC South and missing the playoffs as a once-promising window slammed shut.

Jacksonville's offense fell to 24th in points scored with 302 (18.9 ppg) and 20th in total yards. Quarterback David Garrard struggled behind a battered line, throwing for 3,620 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. The ground game featured Maurice Jones-Drew, who accumulated 824 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 565 receiving yards. An aging Fred Taylor added 556 rushing yards, and wide receiver Matt Jones led the aerial attack with 761 yards. Stripped of line continuity, their balanced system became highly inefficient.

Defensively, the Jaguars dropped to 21st in points allowed (22.9 ppg) and 17th in yards under Gregg Williams. After trading Marcus Stroud, the pass rush vanished; end Reggie Hayward led the team with just 4.5 sacks, while John Henderson added two. The secondary fell under immense pressure, though safety Gerald Sensabaugh and cornerback Rashean Mathis grabbed four interceptions each, with Mathis returning two for scores. Cornerback Brian Williams added 83 tackles, but the unit repeatedly cracked late in games.

The season was marred by a brutal second-half collapse. A rough 0-2 start was momentarily saved by a 23-21 win over the Indianapolis Colts and a 30-27 overtime victory against the Houston Texans. Following a road win against Denver, the Jaguars sat at 3-3 but subsequently dropped eight of their final ten games. The absolute rock bottom arrived in Week 9 with an embarrassing 21-19 defeat against a winless Cincinnati Bengals squad, cementing a downward spiral.

Missing the postseason, the 2008 Jaguars failed to send a single player to the Pro Bowl. This season marked the start of a long franchise drought, crippled by a draft class widely cited as one of the worst ever after trading up for underperforming edge rushers Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves. Kicker Josh Scobee converted 19 of 25 field goals, including a 53-yarder, but his accuracy could not salvage a broken season that defined the end of an era.
